Advanced Data Systems' Medic Rx Software Backups
If your healthcare facility is using Advanced Data Systems (ADS) Medic Rx Software, it is critical that you perform backups of the data files and the program files which are stored in separate directories. Effectively and consistently performing these backups will ensure your electronic Rx/medical records are safe. If you are not certain this data is being backed up, please contact Proven Backup or Advanced Data Systems (ADS) to ensure your electronic medical data is safe.
Here are the steps your healthcare practice should follow if you are using Proven Backup for offsite backup of your ADS Medic Rx Software:
- Create two separate batch file scripts – one to stop and one to start the database, using the commands below.
- Create a PBU backup job to select and backup all of the data and program folders.
- Configure the Proven Backup job to run pre and post backup command scripts. This will stop the database before and restart the database after the backup is performed.
- Schedule the Proven Backup job to run nightly.
- Check the Proven Backup report and verify that the backups ran successfully.
- If there are issues with the backups, a Proven Backup support technician will contact you to discuss and resolve the issues.
A few helpful hints about the Medic Rx data and program backup:
- All data is stored in the database application in a master file.
- The database must be stopped before running the backup.
- The command to use for your batch file script to stop the database is: C:\net stop “SQL Server (RXEXPRESS)” (Note: substitute the appropriate drive letter if the database is not on the “C” drive)
- The command to use for your batch file script to re-start the database is: C:\net start “SWL Server (RXEXPRESS)” (Note: substitute the appropriate drive letter if the database is not on the “C” drive)
- To copy or backup folders and all subfolders: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL/Data (Note: substitute the appropriate drive letter if the database is not on the “C” drive)
